Ziyech’s dream scenario: “I will score the winning goal in extra time”

Hakim Ziyech is off to an amazing start as an Ajacied. He just scored his first European goal and tomorrow awaits the clash with Feyenoord. The Moroccan is excited for his first Klassieker: “I’m really looking forward to the match in the Kuip. After the 2-2 tie against Celta the focus immediately shifted towards Feyenoord.”

When asked how special this week will be for him he replied: “De Klassieker will always be special. I already stopped thinking about the Celta game and I’m fully focussed on tomorrow. I’m not making much of a big deal of my first European goal. We only have one goal during a Europa League-trip and that is to win, so personal succes doesn’t hold much value to me. The game did leave me with some mixed feelings, as we had the opportunity to grab the three points.”

Ziyech also spoke about his first months as an Ajacied: “I feel really at home so far at Ajax. I’m busy looking for an apartment here in Amsterdam. When I feel good at a club and I like my surroundings you can see that in the way I play, I feel free on the pitch. Before I came to Ajax I didn’t know a lot of the players. I obviously played against them with FC Twente but I didn’t know them personally. After I completed my transfer they’ve made me feel more than welcome.”

Hakim Ziyech said the following when asked what the Klassieker means to him: “This will be my first ‘Clasico’, so it will be a whole new experience for me. I’m really looking forward to it. It will be a tough game with two teams going all out and there will be a lot of man to man battles. This match will bring a lot of extra tension compared to other Eredivisie-games. But as soon as the referee blows his whistle, I won’t be paying attention to anything but the match itself.”

On his dream scenario for Sunday: “In the final minute of the match, the score is 1-1, we receive a freekick on the right hand side of the pitch. I take my run up and kick the ball straight into the top corner. This ends up being enough for us to take home the three points.”
